Here are some tips for when you get your puppy home.

Your puppy eats Pure Balance Salmon and Pea. This food can be purchased online or at walmart.  They do wonderful on this food. It is an all life stages food so will not need to be changed.

Our yorkie puppies have food at all times. We also give Nutri cal several times a day.. You can give Gerber sweet potatoes as a treat also. This will keep their blood sugar stable.  As they get older and acclimated to your home you can switch them to a better schedule and feed them through the day instead of at all times.

We also give Nu vet plus vitamins. We want them on them for at least 1 year. Please go ahead and order them so that you have them when you get them home. We use the powder. They also have a wafer. You can use either. Our adults like the wafers.. They think they are treats.. If you choose to do the wafers They get 1/2  a wafer until 5 lb. Once 5 lb they get a whole wafer. If you do wafers please crumble them up as they will choke on them since they are so big. Once they are older they can have the wafer with out breaking it up.
If you choose the powder they will get 1/2 scoop 1 x a day until 5 lb.. Once 5 lb it is a whole scoop 1 x a day. We sprinkle this over the food. This is much easier for pups.

We really like Bil Jac little jacs treats for them. We do recommend skipping treats for the first few days. Please let them settle in to your home first. You can give a peice of dog food in place of the treat at first.
Transitioning to a new home can be stressful for a puppy so adding treats in right away can upset their stomach.
You can also give these foods as treats :
Gerber sweet potatoes
Shredded chicken
cottage cheese
plain yogurt
baby carrots cut up into  small peices

If you have a long trip home please bring a crate for your puppy and puppy pads. We really do not want the puppy taken out into public or let out to go to the bathroom on the way home. They are still vulnerable to viruses and germs and these can be picked up anywhere you go.

Your puppy will already be vet checked when you pick up so Please do not take them straight to the vet unless an emergency of course. Germs are picked up at the vet so we recommend waiting until the next vaccination is due. The date will be on your contract that we want you to go to the vet by.
When you do go to the vet please do not let anyone handle your puppy except you, vet and the techs. We always take ours in crates so that people do not ask to handle them. We have no idea why they are at the vet and it can be uncomfortable when you tell people they cant touch your puppy. The crate helps :)
We also ask that they wipe the table down and do not put your puppy on the floor. Again there are alot of germs on the floor at the vet that can make your pup sick. We even take our own pens to the vet... As they are the same pens that someone could have signed with that had a sick dog.

Once your puppy has had its last vaccination at 12 and some vets like to do a 16 week vaccination as well - You dont have to be as careful with them.. After that last vaccination you can start to take your puppy to public places if you choose to. Please do not go to pet stores, parks or around other people animals until then.. Even though they may be vaccinated and immune they can still carry germs and viruses that the puppy is not yet immune to.

We recommend using a harness for your puppy. You can still use a collar if you would like to add a dog tag etc. Harnesses are much better on them for walking. Yorkie's have sensitive trachea's so a Collar pulling on the throat can bother them.

Please do not give raw hide, rope bones, small toys or flimsy toys that can be broken and choked on.
You can look for teething toys that are made of a hard rubber that are not easily destructed. You can also put them in the freezer.. That will feel good on their gums while teething. If you need toy ideas I will gladly send you links to toys that we like for our pups and adults.
